X Launches Starter Packs to Help Users Find Who to Follow

X is launching Bluesky-like Starter Packs that will let new ones find interesting accounts to follow based on their interests.

X (formerly Twitter) has announced a new feature called “Starter Packs” that'll be launched in the coming weeks, according to the company's head of product, Nikita Bier. The Starter Packs are designed to help new users find interesting accounts to follow based on their interests.

According to Nikita Bier's 'X' announcement, starter packs are lists of curated accounts grouped under interest categories such as News, Politics, Fashion, Technology, Business and Finance, Health and Fitness, Gaming, Stocks, and Memes, allowing new users to find the best accounts (big or small) for their interests.

This feature is directly inspired by Bluesky’s Starter Packs, a discovery tool that was launched in 2024 and became popular for helping newcomers quickly build a relevant follow list. Bluesky lets everyday users create their own starter packs. Each pack can include up to 50 accounts. These packs can be shared publicly on the platform or sent directly to new users using a QR code.

Even before X revealed its own version of the feature, other social platforms had already adopted similar ideas from Bluesky. Threads introduced its version in late 2024. It shows curated profile suggestions directly in the feeds of new users. Mastodon followed in 2025. Its approach allows existing users to decide whether they want their accounts included in these lists or not.

However, X takes a different approach. The company builds and curates the starter packs itself instead of relying on users. The feature works on X in the sense that when a newly registered user opens the X app, they don’t land on an empty feed. Instead, they get ready-made suggestions that match what they care about.
